Cartridge filters are one of the oldest and most common types of pool filter. They filter the water as it flows through a heavy duty paper cartridge. Most need to be taken out and hosed down at least once a month, although there are some models that contain more than one cartridge and can go without cleaning for up to a year. Cartridge filters save significant amount of water as they do not need to be backwashed like sand and DE filters. Cartridge filters usually must be sized according to the size of the pool pump.
